Shing Hei Nathan Man is a contemporary artist whose body of work centres around themes of gender euphoria, love, freedom, and autonomy. Their artistic practice employs traditional mediums such as graphite as well as experimental digital techniques like digital illustration and 3-D modelling. Growing up in a digitally-saturated environment, Nathan draws inspiration from the internet and popular culture. Their work explores the impact of information overload on individuals in contemporary society and how it influences their sense of self. Nathan's art also incorporates themes of protest and resistance, informed by their experiences growing up in Hong Kong, a politically turbulent city. For HOT OFF THE PRESS, Nathan Man’s short zine PärÅdißé, navigates the complexities of identity, displacement, and impermanence as an international student, delving into the elusive concept of utopia—an idealised paradise of self that many, particularly queer and gender non-conforming individuals, are constantly striving for but rarely attain.
