Minoan Family, 2024
White stoneware clay, stained slips and clear glaze
My artwork is named Minoan Family.
Minoan Family is a three piece ceramic work. The artwork is three vessels in shapes inspired by the ancient Minoan artefacts found in Crete, Greece.
The surface images on these works are inspired by my husband and his family who live in Chania, Crete.
My time with them has been so precious and bright that I wanted to capture these moments in a painterly and sculptural fashion.
I used the stained slips to give a more textured and childlike quality to the surface images, and then used the black stain to create some more detail in the outline.
Minoan Family is made of white stoneware pottery clay, with layered slips and stains to create the imagery, with a light coating of clear glaze.
